Dental Cleaning and Examinations

Use This Checklist to Prepare for Your Next Dental Cleaning Appointment

Dental cleaning appointments can be nervewracking for a lot of people, but they really are necessary in order to maintain good oral and dental hygiene. These appointments are done about twice a year in order to ensure that your teeth are healthy.

While most people do maintain their dental cleaning appointments, there are some who are unfamiliar with them. It is important to be prepared for upcoming dental cleaning appointments so that they go as smoothly as possible. There are a few ways to prepare for these visits, and in this article, we go over them!

Checklist: Preparing for an upcoming dental cleaning appointment

Keep this small checklist handy prior to your dental cleaning appointment.

Eat a light meal

It is always a good idea to eat a light meal before your dental cleaning appointment because it's hard to say how long you will be there. If any abnormalities are discovered, the dentist may want to go over them with you so that they can be treated. Another reason to add eating to your checklist is that immediately after your cleaning appointment, it is usually advised not to eat anything for a while due to the fluoride treatment that is usually done during a cleaning appointment

Brush your teeth

After eating a light meal, it is a good idea to add brushing your teeth to the checklist. While you are going to the dentist to have your teeth cleaned, if you clean them prior to the appointment itself, the dentist may be able to spend less time cleaning and more time ensuring that your dental and oral health is pristine. Having freshly cleaned teeth can be courteous to the dentist as well since they will be working within your mouth. Leftover food particles may not be the greatest look for the dentist to see.

Floss

Another great thing to add to the checklist prior to the dental cleaning appointment is to simply floss! Flossing is just as important as brushing is, and it will demonstrate to the dentist that you know how to care for your teeth and gums. Flossing can be done quickly to ensure that there isn't anything left in between teeth.

Come up with questions or concerns

Because dental cleaning appointments aren't very frequent, there may be questions or concerns that arise during the time between appointments. With that being said, it may be a good idea to add any questions or concerns to the checklist so that you can go over them with your dentist during the cleaning appointment. It can be hard to remember everything on the spot, but if they are added to your list, then you're likely to remember!
